Madres is a video (collection of the Fond National d'Art Contemporain) made in Argentina, during a residency financed by the French Institute and the City of Paris. The mothers and grandmothers of the Plaza de Mayo in Buenos Aires have been marching for 30 years, demanding justice for the children and grandchildren who disappeared, were murdered and tortured by the Argentine military regime of General Videla, who organised a coup d'état in 1976.
"Madres strikes a chord with history. Stray glances, held in burning curiosity, in search of something, permeate the whole with a clatter and visual incisions. The soundtrack, like an "axe blow", redoubles the feelings of confusion, fear and suspicion. Modesty and obscenity collide head-on. "
